An early News Year’s Day shooting at the Baymont Inn has resulted in one man being injured, Bremerton Police have reported.
At 1:38 a.m. today, the Bremerton Police Department was dispatched to the Baymont Inn, located in the 5600 block of Kitsap Way, for a report of a large fight. While officers were en route the call was upgraded to a shooting. Dispatch also advised that a vehicle had fled from the scene of the shooting.
When officers arrived on scene there were hundreds of people in the area. Officers were able to locate an adult male who had suffered a gunshot wound and a female victim that had been assaulted.
The Bremerton Police Department put out a county-wide request for assistance due to the size of the crowd and the fact that many in the crowd were aggressive and hostile. Several smaller fights broke out while we were trying to secure the area for Bremerton Fire to treat both victims. Officers from most of the police agencies within Kitsap County responded to our request for assistance.
An officer that was responding to the shooting located the vehicle that reportedly fled the scene of the shooting. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle fled, resulting in a pursuit. The fleeing vehicle crashed and the driver, who was the sole occupant, fled on foot. That suspect was later located by a Bremerton Police K-9.
Bremerton Detectives are on scene and have begun processing the crime scenes. They have also been identifying and interviewing witnesses and people that were at the hotel at the time of the shooting.
Two subjects were arrested by Bremerton officers for interfering with officers while they were trying to get aid to the shooting victim.
The driver of the vehicle that fled the scene was arrested and booked into the Kitsap County Jail for Felony Eluding and DUI. Detectives are still working to determine what if any role this subject played in the shooting.
