A 60-year-old Silverdale man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Thursday afternoon following a two-car collision on State Route 303 in Silverdale.
The collision occurred around 5:20 p.m. on northbound State Route 303 just north of Ridgetop Boulevard, according to Washington State Patrol (WSP).
The man, driving a 1998 Chevy Tahoe, was traveling northbound on State Route 303 at a high rate of speed. He rear-ended a 1985 Chevy van, driven by a 48-year-old Bremerton woman, according to WSP. The van then swerved and was struck again by the Tahoe.
The Tahoe left the roadway, drove along an embankment and struck a tree.
The man was airlifted to Harborview with head and chest injuries and the Tahoe was totaled. He was charged with DUI.
The woman had back pain and was not taken to the hospital. Her van had only minor damage and was driven from the scene, according to WSP.
Neither driver was wearing a seat belt.
