The Greater Kingston Kiwanis club had quite a busy spring, and summer is just around the corner.
You will start to see our beautiful 1964½ yellow Ford Mustang around town now that the weather is nice. You can’t miss it because it is painted exactly the way it was when it was built. The car will be entered in a number of car shows around the area and the club is raffling it off to support its “children priority one” mission of youth activities in North Kitsap. Kiwanis participated in the Viking Day parade in Poulsbo, and had many interested Viking Fest participants queuing up to buy tickets.
Berry sales are going strong and, as mentioned last month, you can log on to the Kingston Chamber of Commerce website at http://kingstonchamber.com to get order forms and prices.
The Kingston High School Key Club held a fashion show at the KHS commons on May 15. Great fun was had by all. The Key Club is a Kiwanis-supported club in high schools throughout the world and is a great way for our high school youth to meet, have fun and do good things for the community.
They help with Kiwanis programs, raise money for local charities (such as their fashion show), and learn how to become responsible and productive adults. Contact Margret LeMay at (360) 337-8221 for more information.
We collected children’s books in May for our Christmas toy drive, and will collect something really cool that the kids will love in June. If you are interested in contributing, come to one of our 7 a.m. Thursday meetings at the Oak Table Café and bring a toy, or drop toys off at Columbia Bank.
It’s easy to find an example of what great children we have in the Kingston area. Kiwanis member Fabienne Fich-Jorgenson’s daughter, Tatianna Finch, raises a pig each year as a member of Future Farmers of America. When she sells her pig at the Kitsap County Fair and Stampede, she donates 10 percent of the profits to ShareNet, Kingston’s local food bank. She has done this for the last five years. This year she wants to donate all the profits to the food bank. Our Kiwanis members raised enough money to adopt the pig (pig-bucks) so she will be able to accomplish this generous deed. Good for you, Tatianna.
If you want to get involved with Kiwanis, meet great people and work with youth in our community, come down to the Oak Table Café at 7 a.m. on Thursday mornings. Attend our meeting to see what we do and we will buy you breakfast.
