Kingston man’s truck stolen, crashed through gate near Bremerton

Two runaway teens from Port Angeles crashed a stolen pickup truck registered to a Kingston man through a gate south of Bremerton Monday night, while trying to outrun a state trooper.

The teens, males ages 16 and 17, received minor injuries and were booked into Kitsap County juvenile detention after being treated at Harrison Medical Center, according to a Washington State Patrol report.

The truck, a 1993 Ford Ranger, was totaled in the crash.

The trooper started the pursuit of the pickup traveling north on State Highway 3, south of the Kitsap and Mason county line, at 9:52 p.m. A traffic infraction drew the attention of the trooper, said Trooper Krista Hedstrom, State Patrol spokeswoman.

The chase ended about four minutes later when the 16-year-old driver turned onto Log Yard Road, burst through a gate and lost control, rolling the truck onto its side.

The truck was reported stolen in Port Townsend at about 3 p.m. Hedstrom said.

Both teens had been reported as runaways in Port Angeles Monday, although the driver also had a Bremerton residence listed in his file, Hedstrom said.

After being treated for injuries — one youth suffered a back injury while the other complained of soreness in his knee and neck — the pair was booked into Kitsap County juvenile detention for investigation of attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle.
