Snow is coming down as I write about our just-for-fun Winter Reading Program for adults in February and March.

Read a book, review it at our website www.krl.org, and enter a drawing for a gift card at a bookstore. Drawings will be held at the end of February and March. Your reviews will be posted on our website so others will get an idea of what to read.

“The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” by Rebecca Skloot will be the topic of discussion with the Kingston Book Group on Feb. 1, 10:30-11:30 a.m.Seattle Opera Preview lecture: Orphee et Euridice is Feb. 11 from 2-3:30 p.m. Opera aficionado Norm Hollingshead tells the story of Orpheus’ descent to the Underworld to rescue his love, Eurydice. Talk about drama: it doesn’t get any more dramatic than this. Funded by a donation from an anonymous couple in Kingston.

The Kingston Writers Group invites you to join in a friendly supportive atmosphere to encourage writing poetry, nonfiction or fiction. Meetings are on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Indianola Room of the Kingston Community Center. Beginners are welcome.

LITTLE BOSTON LIBRARY EVENTS
– Little Boston Book Group meets the first Wednesday of each month, 11 a.m. to noon. In February, the title we’ll discuss is “Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand” by Helen Simonson.

– Finding Balance in Your Budget, Feb. 4, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In this introductory session about understanding credit, debt and budgeting, a financial adviser from Edward Jones will present information on setting personal financial goals, managing expenses and debt, practical savings options for now through retirement, and creating a financial blueprint for the rest of your life.

– Be one of our library Valentines on Feb. 11, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., by coming into the library to handcraft a rose, make a special Valentine, and decorate a cookie.

– Adult Crafternoons: Wednesdays, 2:30–3:30 p.m. Bring your handwork projects and see our newest crafting books.
