Kitsap Pumas

The Kitsap Pumas are hosting open tryouts for prospective professional players Saturday and Sunday at Gordon Field at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds, 1200 NW Fairgrounds Road, Bremerton.

There is a non-refundable registration fee of $50. Prospects are encouraged to pre-register at the club Web site — www.kitsapsoccerclub.com — because demand is high.

ISPN Sports

Kevin Mac, the voice of the Kitsap BlueJackets, will provide a live play-by-play broadcast of the Bremerton High School boys basketball game against Port Townsend High School at 7 p.m. Friday.

The featured guest on Saturday’s ISPN Sports Show is Olympic College baseball coach Ryan Parker. The show begins at 10 a.m.

Moskowitz named Runner of the Year

Central Kitsap High School senior Shane Moskowitz was named the 2009-10 Gatorade Washington Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.

The award recognizes runners who not only perform well in their sport, but also succeed in the classroom.

Moskowitz won the Class 4A state cross country championship last fall, and also recently won the Nike Border Clash, Ft. Steilacoom Invitational, Bellarmine Invitational, Curtis Invitational and the Wenatchee Invitational.

He signed a letter of intent to run cross country next season at Oklahoma State University.

Become a lacrosse official

The Washington Women’s Lacrosse Umpire Association will host a training session from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 20 at The Zone Sportsplex, 21291 Urdahl Road NW, Poulsbo.

The registration deadline is Feb. 18 and the clinic fee is $50.

No prior experience as an official or knowledge of the game is required. New umpires earn $30-45 per game. Games are played Monday through Friday after 3 p.m. and also on the weekends.

Officials self-select games to fit their schedule. There is no requirement to adhere to the same times and days every week.

Bangor Navy baseball

Did you play varsity, college or minor league baseball? Tired of softball? Want to play baseball again? Bangor Navy Baseball Club is looking for players.

Those who are interested must be active duty military, military dependent or veteran, stationed in either Bremerton or Bangor and not deployed from May to October.

The first tryouts are at 1 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Zone Sportsplex, 21291 Urdahl Road Northwest, Poulsbo.

Ozzie Saxon wrestling camp

Four-time All-American wrestler Ozzie Saxon is hosting his third annual “Technique and Competition Wrestling Camp” July 5-8 at Olympic High School.

The cost of the camp is $99, which includes a T-shirt and cookout on the camp’s final day. The focus of the camp is on take-downs, riding techniques and pinning. It is open to wrestlers in grades six through 12.

There will be two sessions, the first running from 9 a.m. to noon and the second from 12:45 to 3 p.m. There will be no second session July 8.

The registration deadline is July 2, but walk-up registration will be accepted if the camp doesn’t fill. A concussion waiver attached to the registration form must be filled out too.

Indoor lacrosse

Registration for the Kitsap Youth Lacrosse Association’s boys spring season is open. Those wishing to learn and play boys youth lacrosse (grades three through eight) must sign up now. Registration forms are available on the Web. The registration fee is $175.
