Port Gamble’s August is all about the arts, with the Port Gamble Theater Companying opening and with the sixth Annual Maritime Music Festival and the 1st Annual Rock n’ Blues Festival – Port Gamble will be a jammin’ place! Mousetrap
Port Gamble Theater Company presents a Roving Players production of Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap,” July 29–Aug. 14, Fridays through Sundays.
After closing its doors for more than 50 years, the Port Gamble Historic Theater is finally re-opening with a new theater company calling the stage “home.” This production is the debut of not only the Port Gamble Theater Company, but also the newly renovated theatre space that will take your breath away.
The show opens Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for children 12 and under and seniors. Paddle Kitsap
Visitors are welcome to paddle North Kitsap’s water trail Aug. 5-6. This spectacular, two-day, fully -supported paddle will be the highlight of your paddling year. Whether you’re in a kayak, canoe, rowing, or other human powered craft you will enjoy the spectacular natural beauty, challenge of the course, and the making of your new paddling friends.
Paddle Kitsap was created to bring people together with the common goal of saving recreational areas and access to those areas in North Kitsap. With an ever expanding demand on open areas in North Kitsap, most open land is going to the “highest and best economic use,” which commonly means more development by humans for humans. The event was formed in partnership with the largest landowner in North Kitsap, Olympic Property Group, which owns about 8,000 acres there is a hope that this land can be developed for people, wildlife, and recreation.
Paddle Kitsap is providing a portion of the proceeds from this paddle to the North Kitsap Trails Association for the purpose of preserving and protecting water access in North Kitsap and to create the North Kitsap Water Trail for future generations. Paddle Kitsap recognizes these special places in Kitsap County and supports community development projects towards this end with grants from the proceeds.
Maritime Music
The Maritime Music Festival returns on Aug. 13. This festival promotes the living legacy of maritime music from all corners of the globe, as played by the many local and national artists who live here in the Puget Sound area and across the country.
Puget Sound has a vibrant maritime music culture, and we try to bring that alive. The festival was founded by Chris Glanister, sometime Celtic and maritime musician, audio engineer, and board member of Puget’s Sound Productions.
Imagine sitting in a natural amphitheater overlooking picturesque Gamble Bay on a warm August afternoon in the Pacific Northwest and looking out where once the oldest operating sawmill in the United States processed and shipped lumber all over the West Coast. Steeped in history, Port Gamble is the perfect place to have one of the West’s few maritime music festivals. Now in its sixth year, we’ve played host to the cream of the Northwest maritime music community and continue to have much fun doing it.
Half marathon
Distance runners will descend on Port Gamble for the half marathon trail race Aug. 14.

‘Hamlet’
Changeling: a Shakespeare Company brings “Hamlet” to the stage Aug. 18-21.
Changeling is a group of young, experienced actors who perform Shakespeare wide ranging audiences. Their previous productions include “Hamlet,” “A Winter’s Tale,” and “As You Like It.” We’re based out of Kingston, Washington, and are directed by Bob DeWeese. Their troupe includes a plethora of varied personalities, with one thing in common: a mild obsession with Shakespeare. Most of us grew up with Shakespeare, learning and understanding the lan
guage, and realizing the meaning behind it.
Changeling performs “Hamlet” Aug. 18, 19, 20, and 21 in the Port Gamble Theater. It will be directed by Cassie Post, produced by Kendal Peiguss, and performed by some of the most talented Shakespearean actors this side of the Globe.
Tickets will be available at www.changeling.eventbrite.com on July 20; $10 for adults, and $5 for kids 12 and under. All profits after theater expenses will be donated to the Options Program, without which, Changeling would not have been possible.
Rock ‘n’ Blues Festival
This two day music festival runs Aug. 27-28 and will feature some of the top blues and rock bands in the Northwest. You can catch young guitar virtuoso Cody Rentas, who is blowing away audiences throughout the country with his electrifying blues guitar abilities.
You’ll also be able to see two of Seattle’s hottest rock acts, Midstokke and Perfect Pistol, and the outstanding blues mastery of Loose Gravel and the Quarry, the Front street Cats, Ben Rice Band, and the Julie Duke Band, all well known, with tons of awards under their belts, and with huge followings throughout the northwest. You’ll be able to catch the high energy rock performances of Kitsap favorites, cROCKERS, Drive, Without Warning, No Baggage, and a new group with a big sound, the Hyde Group. Also performing will be Eric Fridrich, whose Afro-Cuban Blues style has electrified audiences around the country. Eric’s non-profit organization, Savor the Sound will be the beneficiary of this two day event.
Our family friendly event will feature local food vendors, a beer garden for the 21 and over crowd and a root beer garden, bouncy house, instrument “petting zoo”, and other activities for the kids. General admission is $25; a weekend pass is $40; with discounts for military, law enforcement and fire department personnel.
