Closure of Tracyton Fire Station expected

Commmissioners for the Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue District are expected to vote Monday to close the Tracyton Fire Station.

The item is on the agenda for the meeting which begins at 4 p.m. at the administration building, 5300 NW Newberry Hill Road in Silverdale.

For the past few months the district has been considering the closure of the station is is now manned by volunteers. According to the district’s maintenance director, repairs to the station, to bring it up to standards, could go as high as $500,000. The closure is taking place to save the district money.

A public open house and discussion was held on the closure in March. Chief Scott Weninger is asking the board to vote to close the station and surplus the property which would mean it could be sold.

In other business, the chief is also asking the board to consider pay raises for non-union employees in the district. The subject came up last month and the chief told the board that management and supervisory employees had not had a raise since 2010.

Documentation titled “management and supervisory employees wage and benefit plan” is referred to in a resolution that the district released Thursday, but it has not been released by the district as of Friday. It should show the amount of raise being requested.

In another matter, Weninger is expected to give a report on an internal economic summit that has been on-going for several months. That group has been looking for ways that the district can save money.
