One never knows exactly how it will feel to leave a place filled with memories.

Hired in April 1989, I have spent countless hours helping others in that small library, often described as “cozy.”

In the ’90s, staff members shared the area with science displays, which sometimes included tadpoles, mice, chicks, walking sticks, guppies, caterpillars, or snakes.

A librarian kept a supply of chocolate chips and green peppers near the computer, and I will never forget that aroma.

The new owners of the old community center will have their own adventures as this chapter in the life of Kingston Library ends. Those of you who feel that bittersweet tinge right now will always hold those memories dear, as do we, your Kingston Library staff.

We look forward to providing service to you in the new building at the Village Green on West Kingston and Dulay roads. Our May programs include:

Family Storytime: 10:30-11 a.m. May 2, 9, 16, 23. Early literacy learning fun with lots of full body movement, songs, stories, and rhymes designed to build letter knowledge, vocabulary, and narrative skills.

Book Group: 10 a.m. May 4. Discussion will be on “The Dinner” by Herman Koch.

Kingston Friends of the Library Meeting: 10-11 a.m. May 9, at the new library.

Kingston Writers Group: 6:30 p.m. May 10. Enjoy a friendly, supportive atmosphere to encourage writing. We want to read what you want to write. Beginners welcome.

“Protecting Pollinators” with Ann Lovejoy: 10:30 a.m. May 11. We all know that bees are beleaguered, but other important pollinators are also at risk, which can lower crop productivity and make daily foods more expensive.

We can help beneficial insects thrive by creating pollinator-friendly environments, planting nectar- and pollen-rich gardens at home and in public places, and using organic and natural-care products instead of toxic broad-target pesticides.

Garden author Ann Lovejoy will present a program covering appropriate plans, plants and problem solving strategies for making pollinator-friendly private and public gardens.

Librarians’ Top Picks — Clean Reads: 10:30 a.m. May 25. Recommendations for “clean reads” — books that are just plain enjoyable. When you want to read something without graphic violence, explicit sex, and strong profanity.

LITTLE BOSTON LIBRARY

Family Storytime: 10:30-11 a.m. May 3, 10, 17, and 24.

Crafternoon: 2:30-3:30 p.m. May 4, 11, 18, and 25. Bring your craft projects or find inspiration for your next project.
