Kitsap 9/11 Memorial
Thanks to the public for the support
We, the people of the Kitsap 9/11 Committee wish to thank Ms. Joan Dingfield, a member of the Bremerton Parks and Recreation Commission, for voicing her concerns regarding the future of the 9/11 Memorial.
The committee wants the residents of Kitsap County to know that your hopes and respect for the World Trade Center steel beams has been acknowledged and we have accepted the responsibility that you and the families of 9/11 in New York City have given to us regarding the treatment and construction of the Kitsap 9/11 Memorial.
We are a small group of citizens, a cross section of Kitsap residents much like your neighbors. We have worked slowly and diligently for over a year to present a memorial that would honor the memories, the sacrifices and the insecurities left by September 11, 2001, as well as the heroism of that day and the national strength we experienced.
Rice/Fergus/Miller is the first gift we can give to our 9/11 Memorial. The incredible talent is widely accepted outside of Washington state. The sensitivity of the design will quite possibly bring international recognition to our state and financial gain to the city of Bremerton. It is that good.
We have reached a point in the project that we can now bring to the public the goals and process we need to travel through the completion of the memorial.
We hope the residents of Kitsap will continue to give us the tremendous support you gave us when the steel arrived last August, (over 3,000 people attended).
Thank you for your trust. We will have a memorial we will be proud of.

Georgia’s House
All it takes to help is a concern for women and children
On April 17, the Weaver Foundation opened Georgia’s House at 4846 Auto Center Way in Bremerton,, a 24-hour shelter for homeless women and children. Since opening, 20 women have called the shelter a temporary home while participating in transition programs designed to help them find an alternative to their homelessness.
Georgia’s House presents an opportunity for caring people to contribute to a worthwhile cause in our own community. The shelter is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization in partnership with Bremerton Rescue Mission and is a recently designated United Way charity. Donations of consumable items and money are always appreciated. To donate to this critically needed resource, please go to www.gmweaverfoundation.org or call (360) 479-9020.
Another way for people to give is to become a volunteer at the shelter. No special skills are needed other than concern and consideration for the welfare of women and children who need a safe and comfortable temporary home. To volunteer, please call (360) 479-9020.
