The Bucs shut out the Riders 3-0 at Buc Field, March 27.

KINGSTON — The Kingston Buccaneers returned to the field after a bye March 27 to defend their home field from the Port Angeles Roughriders.

The Bucs shut out the Riders 3-0 at Buc Field.

“After our first loss of the season [March 22], we had a bye [March 25] and wound up playing a better possession game; knocking it around the backfield and midfield, but not shooting much,” Kingston head coach Craig Smith wrote to the Herald.

Kingston’s first goal came in the 29th minute, when team captain Tommy Nitchman kicked the ball in off an assist from Jovi Hernandez.

Leading 1-0 into the second half, Alex Newton scored in the 47th minute, with another assist by Hernandez.

It was Newton again in the 64th minute on a header, with an assist by Vaurio Calvo.

The win over the Riders (3-3) keeps the Bucs (4-1) in second in the Olympic League. They are one game behind the North Kitsap Vikings.

The Bucs take a break until April 8. They travel to Silverdale to play the Klahowya Eagles (4-2). The Eagles most recently lost 3-1 to the North Kitsap Vikings, March 27.
