A new voice in the chorus | In Our Opinion | March

Columns have come and gone from the Kingston Community News in the last month.

The Kingston Art Gallery is packing its bags for Poulsbo, so our pages will no longer feature its monthly report and splash of color. Columnist Marilyn Liden Bode isn’t making the move with the gallery and she’s agreed to help us stay on top of the Kingston arts scene.

Judy Thorpe of American Marine Bank had been giving us insights into the mortgage market. She will no longer be writing for us because American Marine was bought by Columbia Bank. On a temporary basis, Community News staple Pete DeBoer has suspended his “Down at the Port” column while he campaigns for state Legislature. Kingston Harbormaster Kevin Van Vliet (profiled on page 3) will be our resource for port happenings, and there will be plenty to report.

Amid the departures, we are excited to announce a new column this month. The Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe has agreed to add its voice to the mix with a column titled “Noo-Kayet” or “our village.” You can read its debut column on page 17.

The tribe and Little Boston had been mostly missing from this newspaper, yet few groups have more influence on life in the North End. We’re glad they have joined us.

It’s no secret that columns are the lifeblood of The Kingston Community News and want the columns we offer to mirror the diversity of life in the North End. If you have an idea for a column or think there’s a perspective we’re missing, please write to us at editor@kingstoncommunitynews.com.

We can never have too many voices in our chorus.
