Donated archives offer window to history | A Glance At The Past | March

The Kingston Historical Society received two sets of newspapers in early January 2011. We wish to publicly thank the people who gave us these items. They provided us with the information for the February article. The sketch this month is the only picture that has been found of the Red Apple Market that burned in 1990.

The sketch this month is the only picture that has been found of the Red Apple Market that burned in 1990.

It appeared in the March 1990 issue of the Kingston Community Center News.

The market was brand-new at the time of the fire. The grand opening may not have occurred yet. Many in the community felt that the fire was arson. At least one old-timer expressed suspicions about the identity of the perpetrator. Nothing was ever proven.

The society will continue to review the old newspapers and occasionally include information from them.

The Kingston Historical Society has limited storage facilities but enjoys receiving copies of old papers. Society members can make copies of old photographs, returning the originals to their owners.

The Historical Society meets at 10 a.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month in the Kingston Community Center. Reach President Harriet Muhrlein at (360) 297-2448.
