Kingston High band moves into fourth place in radio contest

KINGSTON — The Kingston High School Pep Band moved into fourth place in a $10,000 music contest sponsored by Seattle radio station KZOK and The Rock Wood Fired Pizza restaurants this week. In October, the band submitted audio and video recordings of its rendition of the classic rock song, “Radar Love” by Golden Earring to The School of The Rock — Battle of the Bands contest. The contest pits 33 high school pep bands against each other for the chance to win a $10,000 prize. Second place receives $5,000 and a $2,500 consolation prize also will be given.

The contest consists of two rounds: In the first round, the bands must receive votes from the public to move into the second and final round. On Feb. 6, the field of 33 bands will be narrowed to the top 10 vote-getters and judges will select the contest winners based on how well the bands execute their songs. To vote for the Kingston High band, send a text message with the words ROCK 10 to 24300. There is a limit of 10 texts per day per phone.
