KINGSTON — The Edmonds/Kingston ferry route was out of service until further notice early Sept. 1, reportedly because of a diesel fuel spill at the Kingston ferry landing.

A containment boom and absorbent pads were placed in the water next to the ferries as crews worked to clean the spill.

WSF spokeswoman Marta Coursey told KOMO News that 15 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from the MV Walla Walla before service started Sept. 1, creating a sheen on the water.

Alternate travel routes are the Seattle/Bainbridge and the Seattle/Bremerton routes. Updates regarding ferry service will be posted on the Washington State Ferries website as information becomes available.
