Election 2009: Tough, yet rewarding volunteerism

This November, school boards across the state will ask citizens to vote on school board director positions. Central Kitsap School District (CKSD) has three seats up for election, one (area 2) where the incumbent intends not to run.

Serving on a school board is often called “the toughest volunteer job in America.” However, there are great rewards in helping students and giving back to the community. CKSD is an outstanding school district with wonderful students and a highly dedicated, competent and professional staff. We also enjoy great support from parents and community members. Despite a dynamic and challenging state and federal environment, our students continue to excel!

I encourage anyone who might be interested in serving the community and public education to consider running for the CKSD School Board.

Declarations of candidacy may be filed (without fee) between June 1 and 5. To be legally eligible, a candidate must be a registered voter and must live in the appropriate director area. Geographical descriptions of director areas and other information about CKSD is available online at www.cksd.wednet.edu/SchBoard/SchoolBoard.htm or by calling the CKSD Superintendent’s Office at (360) 662-1610.
