South Kitsap finished with just a 3-7 record — its worst mark since 1977 — but the football team still had some notable individual performers.
Those accomplishments are reflected with the selection of four Wolves to the All-Kitsap County first team.
The all-county team, which consists of eligible players from schools in Kitsap County, was voted on by the sports editors and writers of the Kitsap News Group, including the Port Orchard Independent, Bainbridge Review, Bremerton Patriot, Central Kitsap Reporter and North Kitsap Herald.
2010 All-Kitsap County Football Team:
OFFENSE
QB — Brett McDonald, Central Kitsap, senior: McDonald anchored the Cougars’ offense this season with 1,265 passing yards, seven touchdowns and a 58.1 completion percentage. McDonald was a huge piece for the Cougars, who finished 6-4, including a 4-3 record in the Narrows League. He nearly led Central Kitsap to an upset against Skyline in the preliminary round of the Class 4A state playoffs. He completed 10-of-14 passes with 166 total yards and two rushing touchdowns against the powerhouse Spartans.
RB — Lou Hecker, Kingston, senior: Hecker lead the Olympic league in rushing yards with 1,963 yards on 300 carries, breaking the previous record of 1,033 set by Travis Schriner. He also had 22 touchdowns to help the team reach its first playoff berth.
RB — Kyle Kennedy, Bremerton, senior: Kennedy had a breakout year in 2010, totaling 1,871 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns in 10 games for the resurgent Knights. Kennedy averaged 7.7 yards per carry and rushed 243 times for Bremerton. Kennedy already has earned several honors for leading the Olympic League in every major rushing category. He dropped 30 pounds during the offseason, and the results were evident when he rushed for at least 200 yards in seven games this season.
“Kyle is not only a great football player, but also a great kid,” Bremerton coach Nate Gillam said. “I’ve never met a kid as good as Kyle with such little ego.”
WR — Sam Gesicki, Olympic, junior: Gesicki had a breakout year for the Trojans this season. He led the team with 43 catches for 650 yards and four touchdowns this season.
WR — Will Nguyen, North Kitsap, senior: Nguyen finished with a team-high 449 yards on 34 receptions this year. He also averaged 13.2 yards per catch and had two touchdowns.
TE — George Marinan, North Kitsap, junior: Marinan had 292 yards and four touchdowns on 17 receptions this season. He also had 37 tackles and four sacks.
OL — Lance Beisley, North Kitsap, senior: Even though the Vikings finished with a 1-9 record, Beisley held his own. He averaged nine primary tackles this season.
OL — Alec Grimm, Bainbridge, senior: He may be the coaches’ son, but Grimm has handled the center position well since his sophomore season, when he took over the position because of injury. Grimm helped lead the offensive line as they created holes for Spartan runners to gain 2,358 yards and 90 first downs. Grimm also started as a defensive tackle and registered 44 total tackles and recovered three fumbles.
OL — Ben Hanson, Kingston, senior: Hanson took on the role of offensive lineman early on as he helped push the team down the field. Hanson averaged five tackles per game, playing aggressively during the game against North Mason, which the team won 29-8 on Oct. 22.
OL — Charlie Murray, South Kitsap, senior: Murray has been a fixture on both the offensive and defensive lines for two seasons. On the defensive side, he had 23 tackles and four tackles for loss.
OL — Freddy Rodolf, Kingston, senior: A two-way standout, Rodolf finished with 40 tackles and 17 assists this year. He also had 5.5 sacks, which put him in fourth in sacks overall in the league.
DEFENSE
DL — Jake Brouker, Central Kitsap, senior: Brouker finished 2010 with 27 primary and 29 assisted tackles for the Cougars, who looked to their defense in a big year for the Narrows League. Brouker added 16.5 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles.
DL — Austin Levi Cook, South Kitsap, senior: Defensive line rarely are among team leaders when it comes to tackles, but Cook finished second on the Wolves in that statistic with 42.
DL — Logan Dieterich, Bainbridge, junior: Dieterich was a big part of the Spartans’ running game as a tackle, but he dominated as a defensive tackle. He recorded 69 total tackles, 18 of which he was the primary tackler. Dieterich also had two sacks and recovered a fumble.
DL — Josh Molskness, Bainbridge, junior: Another workhorse on the offensive line, Molskness was a big threat at defensive end to blow up a play. He had 44 total tackles, 20 of them primary, and 4.5 sacks.
LB — DeDe Harris, Bremerton, senior: Harris totaled 69 primary tackles and 27 assisted tackles for the Knights in their rebound season. He also was known for introducing quarterbacks to the ground when he totaled four sacks on the season. His three fumble recoveries and an interception made the difference for the Bremerton defense.
LB — Andrew Shadle, Bremerton, sophomore: Shadle was a nuisance for opponents this season. He led the Knights’ defense with 107 primary tackles and 31 assisted tackles this season, helping propel the school to its best season in eight years.
“Andrew is a good, hard-nosed football kid and a great student,” Gillam said. “We’re really looking forward to two more solid years in him.”
LB — Cody Tester, South Kitsap, senior: Tester was South’s most active defender, finishing with a team-best 46 tackles. He also had four tackles for loss.
DB — Jordan Ashton, Bainbridge, senior: Ashton was key in the secondary for the Spartans this season. He could come up and take down a runner or keep opponents from capitalizing on the long pass. Ashton finished with 39 tackles – 18 of them with him as the primary tackler — and one interception.
DB — Isaiah Davis, South Kitsap, senior: Davis arguably was the Wolves’ biggest playmaker in all facets — offense, defense and special teams — of the game. He had a team-high four interceptions and tied Cook for second on the team with 42 tackles. As a wide receiver, he had 430 yards and three touchdowns on 22 receptions.
DB — Trey Fullilove, Olympic, junior: Fullilove was a terror for quarterbacks this season. The junior is a dual threat at wide receiver, but Fullilove made a name for himself on defense with 47 primary and 19 assisted tackles in 2010. Fullilove also tallied a sack and an interception.
DB — Sabian Perrigo, Bremerton, senior: Perrigo was a product of his environment this season. The environment being a sound defense for the Knights. Perrigo led a stout secondary with five interceptions for 105 yards, including two for touchdowns that were the difference for his team. He also added 19 primary and two assisted tackles.
Specialist: Will Devereaux, Bainbridge, senior: A standout for the boys’ soccer team, Devereaux transferred his talent to the gridiron. He was 29 of 31 on extra points and connected on five of seven field goals, with a season long of 37. As a punter, he got off 28 of them for 835 yards, with his longest kick at 50 yards.
