The Kitsap Rifle and Revolver Club has been in business for more than 80 years, and there has been a firing range at the location on Seabeck Highway for even longer.

That means people have been shooting there, safely, for longer than most readers of this page have been alive.

As staff writer Christopher Carter reports (See story A1), neighbors of the gun club have been investigating a litany of complaints against the organization, including whether the orientation of the range endangers locals as well as possible environmental fallout from lead in the soil.

Some appear to at least merit further investigation from county officials.

The issue here is how the community will live with the gun range, not whether the gun range should go away.

It shouldn’t.

Both sides of this discussion are encouraged to work together to find a suitable solution, one that allows neighbors peace of mind and gun club members the freedom they expect.
