TACOMA — The Kingston Buccaneers fought through to the end of the district fastpitch tournament, however, the White River Hornets denied them a place at state.

The Hornets ended the District tournament by beating Kingston 12-0, May 25, to earn the fifth spot to the state tournament.

The White River girls split two games — one a rout, the second much closer — to open the West Central District fastpitch tournament.

The Hornet girls made their tourney debut with a laugher, beating Tyee 16-0. That put White River against Fife and resulted in a 5-2 loss.

The opening day split meant White River would need a pair of victories May 25 to grab the district’s fifth and final spot into the upcoming Class 2A State Fastpitch Tournament. They did just that by beating Franklin Pierce 2-1, and then the Bucs.

The Hornets will play the first round of state against W.F. West at 10 a.m., May 30, at Carlon Park in Selah.

The Bucs also split two games, defeating Lindbergh 5-3, and losing to Orting 4-3.

The Bucs went on to eliminate the Bremerton Knights with a 13-2 victory May 25.

The Sequim Wolves and Port Angeles Roughriders survived the District tournament. The Wolves finished second, losing in the finals to Fife. The Riders finished fourth, losing 5-0 to Orting.
