By the big red barn in the great green field

A Glance at the Past takes a look at barns along West Kingston Road.

By HARRIET MUHRLEIN

The three barns pictured in this month’s Glance at the Past have have one thing in common. They were all originally built to store hay for feeding cattle.

All three barns can be found less than a mile apart from the junction of Miller Bay and West Kingston roads to a short drive down Chris Lane. They range in age from nearly 100 years to almost 40 years.

Only the Forsyth barn (pictured on the front page of this issue) on the corner of West Kingston and Miller Bay Road is on a working farm.

A Glance at the Past is brought to you by the Kingston Historical Society, which meets at the Kingston Community Center on the fourth Wednesday of the month, January through October. Come join us at 10 a.m. Jan. 28, 2009.
