BlueJackets win two of three of against Spokane

Collegiate takes second consecutive series, improves to 11-15 overall.

The Kitsap BlueJackets won two of three games against Spokane on the road over the weekend to pull within 10 games of first-place Corvallis in the West Coast League West Division.

The Jackets (11-15) scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to erase a 4-0 deficit in the series-opener Friday. Kyle Baskett then hit a sacrifice fly to center field in the top of the 12th to give the club the lead and eventual 5-4 win.

A night later, Spokane erupted for six runs in the bottom of the eighth en route to an 11-2 victory. Jacket starter Steven Singer allowed five runs on seven hits in four innings, and Brian Denneny yielded six runs on seven hits in two innings of relief.

In the series finale Sunday, the Jackets plated a season-high nine runs in a 9-1 victory.

It was the Jackets’ second consecutive series win — they took two of three from Moses Lake on the road July 7-9 — and the club has now won four of its last six games.

After exhibition games against the Tacoma Cardinals, a feeder team, Tuesday and Wednesday, the Jackets host Corvallis (21-5) for three-game series beginning at 7:05 p.m. Friday.

The club then begins a seven-game road trip July 20.
