Cruz arrested in South Kitsap

SOUTH KITSAP – Arnold Mafnas Cruz, a man wanted by sheriff's detectives in connection with the robbery and disappearance of 87-year-old Robert Archie Hood, surrendered to deputies Jan. 1.

SOUTH KITSAP – Arnold Mafnas Cruz, a man wanted by sheriff’s detectives in connection with the robbery and disappearance of 89-year-old Robert Archie Hood, surrendered to deputies Jan. 1.

According to a Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office statement, Cruz, 47, spoke with an employee at a business in the 6700 block of Bethel Road SE, south of Port Orchard, at 3:50 a.m. and requested that the employe call 911. Cruz then identified himself and told the employee that he was wanted by law enforcement and that he wished to voluntarily surrender.

Deputies conducted a tactical approach to the business and took custody of Cruz without incident around 4:15 a.m. Cruz was unarmed. He was taken to Kitsap County Jail and booked for rendering criminal assistance in the first degree.

Seven people have been charged in the Hood case. No other suspects are wanted by investigators.
