CKF&R commissioners to meet Monday

Commissioners are expected to approve a policy that will put the district in line with state law on carrying firearms in their public facilities

The Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue District board of commissioner will meet at 4 p.m. Monday at the Administrative Building, 5300 NW Newberry Hill Road, Silverdale.

On the agenda are two matter for action that we’ve previously reported on. Commissioners are expected to approve a policy that will put the district in line with state law on carrying firearms in their public facilities. Previously, the policy didn’t allow guests to open carry, but that was in violation of state law.

On another matter, the board is expected to vote to allow Chief Scott Weninger to give notice to terminate an agreement regarding fire inspections with the County Fire Marshal’s office. The district had said it no longer can afford to do fire inspections and wants to negotiate with the county a fee for service, or other arrangements. District officials say that by state law, it is the county’s responsibility to perform the inspections.

A third matter on the agenda deals with a disciplinary grievance hearing, but no details were made public.

The meeting is open to the public and public comment will be taken.
