Two different reports during the weekend from concerned citizens using their cellular phones to report erratic driving resulted in two drunk driving arrests.

In both incidents, the arrested drivers were found to have blood alcohol content levels more than double the legal limit.

During the first incident Aug. 29, a citizen observed a vehicle weaving repeatedly across the centerline traveling south on State Route 3 near the Bremerton Airport just after 6 p.m. The vehicle continued into Belfair and into a residential area off Sandhill Road in Mason County where the motorist was contacted and determined to be intoxicated. The 24-year-old Belfair resident, with a prior DUI conviction on his record, was again arrested for DUI. Because of jail overcrowding, he was released after being processed.

The second incident occurred Aug. 30 just before 7 p.m., where another motorist reported a pickup truck pulling a full size travel trailer was weaving badly traveling eastbound on SR 16. The motorist was able to stay behind the vehicle and keep Washington State Patrol dispatchers updated with the vehicle’s location. Troopers were able to overtake the vehicle as it entered Pierce County and stopped it near the Burnham Drive overpass. The 32-year-old male driver from Puyallup was arrested for DUI and later booked into the Pierce County Jail.

WSP encourages motorists observing erratic or unsafe driving to report the incident using their cellular phones by dialing 911 with a direction of travel and provide a description of the vehicle including the color, year, make, body style and license.
