A 9-year-old boy was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Tuesday evening after being struck by a SUV in Bremerton.
The collision occurred around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection Trenton Avenue and Cascade Trail in Bremerton, according to the Bremerton Police Department (BPD).
Three boys were on foot heading to one of their parents’ homes on the east side of Trenton Avenue at Cascade Trail. One boy safely crossed the street ahead of the others. The other two boys darted into the roadway and the 9-year-old was struck by a small SUV traveling northbound on Trenton Avenue. The other boy was not hit or injured.
The Bremerton Fire Department responded to the scene and decided the child would be airlifted to Harborview for treatment of possible internal and head injuries. Bremerton Police spokesman Andy Oakley said the boy was conscious after the collision and was airlifted to Harborview as a precaution.
As of Wednesday afternoon, BPD was still waiting for an update on the boy’s condition.
The road was shut down for about two-and-a-half hours while Bremerton Police investigated the incident. The driver of the SUV was not intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, according to BPD.
