Getting back in a rhythm can often be the hardest part about the start of a new sports season.
Klahowya pitcher Kazandra Holliday didn’t take too long to find hers however.
Holliday struck out 16 batters, firing an 8-inning complete-game shutout against the Sequim Wolves Friday, leading the Eagles to a 1-0 road win.
Not only did Holliday fan 16, she walked no one and allowed just two hits in the game.
Her catcher, Jocylynn Meadows, provided the offense with a triple in the eighth inning, scoring on an error to give the Eagles the win.
The Olympic Trojans came up just shy Friday against Port Angeles, with both Rachel Haas and Kelsey Anchors launching back-to-back home runs in a narrow 7-5 defeat.
The Trojans led 4-1 through three innings before the Roughriders went to work, scoring six runs in the fourth through six innings.
In Narrows League fastpitch action, Stadium flexed its muscles early, blanking CK 6-0 Friday.
The bulk of the damage was done as a result of CK’s own mistakes however, with the Cougars allowing five unearned runs thanks to four errors.
Baseball
It might still be a little chilly as winter continues to transition into spring, but for the Central Kitsap baseball program, the bats have been heating things up nicely.
The Cougars improved to 5-0 to stay undefeated in dominating North Kitsap 19-3 on Friday in Poulsbo.
Casey Bohlmann earned his second win for CK, helping his own cause with an RBI at the plate. Drew Vettleson led the offense, finishing 2-4 with a double, triple and four RBI in the win. Howie McDonald was 2-3 with two RBI and Nate Roberts was 2-4 with a RBI.
Overall, CK had nine players with an RBI.
Olympic too stayed undefeated when the Trojans topped Port Angeles 10-9 on the road Friday, improving to 5-0 themselves, 3-0 in Olympic League play.
Riley Crow pitched into the sixth inning for Oly to earn the win, while Chris Campbell came on late for the save.
The Trojans actually trailed 5-0 through two innings before waking up with three runs of their own in the third. Still, Port Angeles scored two more in the bottom of the third to increase the gap to 7-3.
It wasn’t until the fifth inning that Oly stormed back, scoring six runs in the frame to reclaim a lead they’d never lose.
Jordan Halstead batted 2-3 for Oly with three RBI, while Crow helped himself out with a 2-3 effort that include a pair of RBI.
Tyler Marshall too was stellar for Oly, finishing 3-4 with a double in the win.
Klahowya rounded out a strong weekend for the area, picking up its first win 7-5 against Sequim.
Jordan Green was solid on the hill and at the plate, getting the win while going 2-3 with a triple, two runs and three RBI. Brandon Neet had a great day at the plate as well, going 3-4 with two runs. Eric Eley got the save for KSS.
