Artists Edge reception Aug. 19

Artists Edge’s August artist reception will be from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 19 at the gallery, 9960 Silverdale Way NW. August’s featured artist is Shar DuFresne, of Bremerton, who is a member of of the Poulsbo artitsts league.

Pint for a pint blood drive Aug. 16

All donors who register to donate blood between Aug. 16-20 at the Silverdale Donor Center, 3230 NW Randall Way, will receive a $5 voucher to Silver City Brewery Restaurant & Alehouse as part of Bloodworks Northwest’s “Pint for a Pint” program.

Vouchers are non-transferrable, non-redeemable for cash and will be mailed afterwards to donors who register to donate blood. The offer is available only for those 21 and older. Vouchers may be redeemed for anything on the menu at Silver City Restaurant.

“We are the Northwest’s leading community blood center for more than 70 years, and we’ve been welcoming donors to our Silverdale Donor Center since 1998,” said Clint Kendrick, senior director of donor services. “It’s exciting for us to partner with a local institution like Silver City Brewery to encourage more people to donate blood, and to ensure that our area hospitals are well supplied.”

The donor center collects blood donations to help trauma victims, cancer patients, those receiving organ or bone marrow transplants and more. Bloodworks provides blood to more than 90 hospitals in Washington and Oregon, including Harrison Medical Center and Naval Hospital Bremerton. Every hospital in Kitsap, Mason, Jefferson and Clallam Counties depends on Bloodworks to support their needs.

Girls on the Run coach registration open

Girls on the Run of West Sound needs 60 coaches for the fall season. Register to be a coach and help make a difference in a girl’s life. Coaches with a child in the program receive a $25 discount.

Coach training sessions are held 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 10-11 and 5-10 p.m. Sept. 19 at Harrison Medical Center in Silverdale. Register at www.raceplanner.com/volunteer/signup/gotrws-fall-2016-coach.

Washington State Parks free day Aug. 25

In honor of the National Park Service Centennial, the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is offering free entrance to state parks Thursday, Aug. 25, the 100th anniversary of the federal agency. Day-use visitors will not need a Discover Pass to visit state parks.

There will be two more free days in 2016: Sept. 24 and Nov. 11.

Financial advisor hosts coffee club

John L. Moroney, a local Edward Jones financial advisor, will host a coffee club at 8:30 a.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 2416 NW Myhre Road Suite 102, Silverdale.

“The coffee club offers us an opportunity to learn from one another and receive market updates,” Moroney said. “I look forward to keeping individual investors informed about the current market and economy, as well as have fun and get to know some of my neighbors.”
