Jack and Marjorie Norris of Bremerton recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at Salty’s on Alki Beach in Seattle, where they lived for 18 years.

The former Marjorie Noonan was born in Platte Center, Neb., and attended Omaha University. She then worked for the Nebraska Tuberculosis Association in Omaha. After moving to Seattle, she was employed at the U.S. Geological Survey in Tacoma and later at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration at Sand Point in Seattle from which she retired in 1988.

Her husband is a native of Seattle and graduated from Seattle University with a master’s from the University of Washington.

He served in World War II aboard a submarine in the South Pacific where his skipper was ranked 17th out of 465 World War II submarine skippers for tonnage sunk.

Mr. Norris worked for the Department of the Army Health Services Command at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, retiring in 1986. He also worked for Boeing as a management analyst in Seattle, at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and at Fort Lewis.

The couple met aboard the Virginia “V” on a Chancellor Club cruise. They exchanged vows on May 1, 1948 at Holy Rosary Church in West Seattle.

They have one son, Michael, and daughter-in-law, Karen, and two grandchildren, Kevin and Sarah, who live in Bothell.

Mr. and Mrs. Norris have lived in the Kitsap area for approximately 20 years.
