Hire America’s Heroes is set to host a Career Day at Seattle’s Safeco Field beginning at 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7.
The event features a recruiting fair, skills workshops, career coaching, skills matching and a mixer.
Vets and those interested in exhibiting can register online at www.HireAmericasHeroes.org
Organizers note that corporations such as Amazon, Boeing, Microsoft and Starbucks, among many others, will be on-hand to connect with veteran job seekers during the recruiting fair from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Every Hire America’s Heroes career day to date has attracted more than 1,000 participants.
Throughout the recruiting fair, Accenture will conduct Skills to Succeed workshops. These workshops include videotaped practice interview sessions where veterans can go through a corporate-style interview in a supportive setting. Interviews are conducted by recruiting professionals who offer a performance evaluation, and give the job seeker their recorded interview on a thumb drive. These workshops are free for job seekers who register in advance.
Skills to Succeed workshops also include tutorials for job seekers on how to best leverage LinkedIn as a job search tool. Corporate recruiters frequently use LinkedIn as a key recruiting resource. Effective use of social media is an essential skill in today’s competitive job market.
Many veterans, now employed in corporations, are eager to share their success strategies with today’s military job seekers. Career Coaches are easy to recognize wearing a signature Hire America’s Heroes shirt and standing at tables along the Concourse. Career Coaches are available to any and all job seekers. These are “been there, done that” volunteers ready to help their colleagues make a successful transition.
Futures Inc. provides pre-event matching of Military resumes to jobs posted by Career Day Employers. Job seekers are able to complete a brief profile and upload a resume at a specifically designed registration website in advance. Then, upon arrival at Career Day, job seekers receive a list of exhibitors whose jobs match their skill sets. Visit their tables at Career Day to maximize job-search effectiveness!
Hire America’s Heroes supporters, veteran job seekers, volunteers and guests are all invited to Ellis Pavilion for complimentary hors d’oeuvres, beverages and networking at the Career Mixer Powered by ProLango. Instead of cookie-cutter career advice, ProLango interviews HR and hiring managers and shares their behind-the-scenes information with Career mixer participants. ProLango clients have found employment months faster than the industry average using this “insider” information.
