SHELTON — An 18-year-old South Kitsap girl was one of two people killed in a single-vehicle crash on a forest service road June 1.

The Mason County Coroner’s Office identified the girl as Alena Pepi of Port Orchard. The other person who was reported killed in the wreck was David Dudley, Jr., 19, of Bremerton. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Mason County Sheriff’s Office reported that five people were in the bed of a red Chevy S-10 pickup truck when it ran off Forest Service Road 23 and hit a tree about 7:34 a.m. on a roadlocated in the Olympic National Forest area of Mason County, roughly 18 miles northwest of Shelton.

Deputies reported that witnesses stated that a pickup truck carrying seven people in both the cab and bed of the truck ran off of the road and collided with a tree.

MCSO reported the truck’s driver — who has not been identified — was arrested for suspicion of vehicular homicide and he was listed in stable condition at Harbor View Medical Center after suffering a fractured left femur and facial lacerations.

Two victims were transported to Mason General Hospital, while two others were treated and released at the scene. The accident is still under investigation and marijuana and alcohol were both possibly involved, according to MCSO.

Once released from the hospital, the driver will appear before a Mason County Superior Court judge.
