Women voters celebrating 50 years

BREMERTON — The Kitsap County Historical Society Museum will host the League of Women Voters’ 50-year celebration during the First Friday Art Walk today.

A program is planned for 6 p.m. with members of the group speaking about their history. The league completed a project organizing archives with the assistance of museum volunteers. A presentation of the archive will then be made to the museum.

Historical Society Museum sets workshop

BREMERTON — Kitsap County Historical Society Museum will host a workshop, “Assemblage” with artist Beth Dayton from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, March 2.

Dayton will show how to create “time capsule” in the form of assemblage art. Other materials will be on hand to complete your project.

Cost is $10 for adults, $5 children and $15 for a family. Reservations are encouraged.

Dayton is an assemblage artist living and working in Bremerton and received her bachelor’s in art history from University of California-Long Beach in 1969. She specializes in assemblage using vintage objects and Steampunk accessories for the home. Her articles and art are regularly featured in the Somerset art magazines.

Astronomical group at Olympic College

BREMERTON — The Olympic Astronomical Society will meet from 7:30-9:30 p.m., Monday, March 4, at Olympic College Room Art 103.

The featured presentation is “Comets and the Oort Cloud.” A video “Jupiter and its Amazing Moons” will be shown. There will be a break for refreshments and discussion.

I-502 forum schedule in Bremerton

OLYMPIA — The Washington State Liquor Control Board (WSLCB) has revised its Initiative 502 public forum schedule and venues to accommodate community interest, and added a meeting date in Bremerton.

The forum is Thursday, March 7, in the Kitsap Convention Center, 100 Washington Ave. An open house with board and staff is from 6-8 p.m., followed by an overview of Board’s role in implementation and timeline. Public testimony is from 7:15-10 p.m.

Free tax workshop offered in Bremerton

BREMERTON — The Washington State Department of Revenue is hosting a free workshop for new and small business owners from 9-11 a.m., Thursday, March 7, at the Sheridan Park Community Center, Rooms B and C, 680 Lebo Blvd.

Participants will learn about Washington excise taxes, reporting classifications, deductions, tax incentives, sales tax collection and record-keeping requirements. All receive a workbook and helpful reference guide to Department of Revenue rules and regulations.

The Port Orchard Lions Club will host a Community Health and Senior Resource Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 9, at the United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Kitsap and Sydney streets.

Benefit dance set in Key Peninsula

VAUGHN — Legendary blues/rock band guitarist Jerry Miller and The Jerry Miller Band will perform at the Key Peninsula Civic Center from 8-11 p.m., March 9.

Miller is rated No. 67 of the top 100 guitarists of all time by Rolling Stone Magazine.

The dance benefits the Key Peninsula Civic Center and the Key Peninsula Food Bank. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and admission is $15 per person.

Person who bring a non-perishable food item can receive a $2 off drink coupon.

Acclaimed weaver coming to Key Peninsula March 9

VAUGHN — Internationally acclaimed weaver and author Cheryl Samuel will appear from 1-3:30 p.m. March 9, at the Key Peninsula Civic Center, located at 17010 S. Vaughn Road.

Samuel returns to the Key Peninsula for a week of Ravenstail workshops for weavers of all ages and levels.

Tickets for the event are $20 for adults and $10 for students and seniors and can be purchased in advance online at www.twowaters.org and at Sunnycrest Nursery and Blend Wine Shop in Key Center. Tickets also will be available at the door.
