For anyone who has taken a trip to the Port of Keyport, the damage done to the boat dock by waves is extremely evident — or at least it was.

The small moorage facility, which had been beaten up over the years causing many spots of wood to bow up and walkways to appear to tilt, was replaced Sept. 16 as part of the six-year capital improvement plan for Keyport.

The new facility features three items unavailable on the original dock: fire stands, ADA access and potable water.

The new dock will offer even more for Keyport, according to Brian Watne, port commissioner.

“It will give our local economy a boost by offering more public moorage opportunities,” he said. “People will be able to park their boat here and walk up to the museum or have lunch or dinner at the Whiskey Creek Steak House.”

Marine Floats, a company out of Tacoma, removed the old dock Monday and Tuesday before the new dock was floated in Wednesday morning.

“The new one came in this morning,” Port Commissioner Milt Meeds said Wednesday. “It has been a crazy day. Brian is running all around down there.”
