UPDATE (4:05 p.m.): Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Wilson, after consulting again with detectives assigned to the case, reported that the original report of a change in the girl’s condition was a mistake in wording.
Despite the initial report, Minnow is still in the ICU in critical condition. Her condition has not been down-graded. Apparently, the mistake came about when the detective attempted to inform Wilson that the girl’s condition was not getting any worse or better.
She is still on life-support.
“She’s not slipping any further downhill. She’s stable in her fight to remain alive, it’s just that she has not improved from critical to anything higher up the chain than that,” Wilson said.
The condition of the 4-year-old Seabeck girl, Minnow Michelle Lee, who was admitted to Mary Bridge Hospital in Tacoma last week, has been down-graded from critical to stable on life support, the Kitsap County Sheriff’s office reported this morning.
According to the sheriff’s office, the girl remains on a medical ventilator, despite the change in condition.
Minnow was airlifted from Harrison Medical Center in Silverdale to the intensive care unit at Mary Bridge on Jan. 28, after sustaining a subdural hematoma.
Marce Edwards, Mary Bridge’s media relations manager, said she couldn’t comment on the specifics of the case, but was willing to comment on the hospital’s usual procedures.
“I would say in general, we consider patients on any sort of life support in critical or serious condition,” Edwards said.
Edwards said she found the update of condition by the Sheriff’s office confusing, as the hospital would does typically use the word stable for any of it’s classifications except satisfactory. The classifications rank in severity from satisfactory, to fair, to serious, to critical to deceased.
Doctors had previously reported they were not optimistic about the girl’s chances of recovery.
Jason Reeser, the boyfriend of the girl’s mother, was arrested by detectives following the incident for first-degree assault of a minor. He remains in jail with bail set at $750,000. He is set to appear in court on Feb. 12.
