The Bremerton Parks and Recreation Commission recommended Tuesday the City Council consider the placement of a 9/11 memorial at Evergreen Rotary Park.

The 5-2 vote was taken after members of the 9/11 Memorial Committee presented the committee’s proposal to the parks commission.

The 9/11 memorial would include two steel beams salvaged from the World Trade Center, which were shipped to Kitsap in July.

The commission approved the proposal with stipulations, chairwoman Joan Dingfield said. It requested a time table, funding proposal and design scheme from the memorial committee and does not want the city to pay for the memorial’s development and construction. It also does not want the memorial to occupy any of the current recreational space in the park.

The memorial was originally intended for the Silverdale Waterfront Park, but the Port of Silverdale Board of Commissioners rejected the memorial in April.
