Although August marks the last full month of summer, Bremerton is still packed with a lot of art, music and one last movie, most of which are completely free.

Tuesday, Aug. 4, will feature The Drive at the Free Concerts in the Park event at 6 p.m. in Evergreen Rotary Park. It is part of the Summer Carnival going on at the park with arts and crafts, face painting, games and contests.

Henry’s Deli & Cafe is still offering Lunchtime Summer Concert Series on the Norm Dicks Center Promenade Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. featuring free music from local artists.

Live music and dancing kicks off Aug. 5 when Los Pinguos comes to The Source on Fifth Street just around the corner from the Admiral Theatre. The group offers a mixture of Latin rhythms, performed with Spanish guitars, a Cuban Tres, Peruvian cajón (box-drum) and harmonizing vocals. All tickets are $25 and can be purchased by calling (360) 373-6743.

The 4th Street Stage Outdoor Music Series continues through August every Thursday at 4 p.m. Musicians come from all over the area to provide free music to the downtown area.

Friday, Aug. 7 will be a busy night for downtown Bremerton as the Bremerton Gallery Art Walk takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. followed by the last of the Free Movies & Music on the Roof at 8:30 p.m. Movie goers voted for the film they wanted to see for this final rooftop viewing and the winner will be announced after tonight’s movie.

Free Concerts in the Park continues Aug. 11 with Joey James Dean & Fat Dog Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring their dogs.

The Hi-Fidelity Lounge on Sixth Street hosts the monthly Not Your Grandmother’s Craft Circle the second Thursday of each month and Aug. 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. is when the next one is scheduled to take place.

On Friday, Aug. 14, Blueberry Park on Sylvan Way will host a grand opening ceremony from 2 to 3 p.m. The “Low Impact Development” park, that was made possible through grant assistance from the Washington State Department of Ecology, the Land and Water Conservation Fund and a Community Development Block Grant, features a Community Garden expansion, a playground, wetland restoration, permanent restrooms, paved parking, a walking trail and a central picnic shelter.

Electric six-string violinist Geoffrey Castle takes center stage with his violin from 8 to 9 p.m. Aug. 18 at The Source. Castle has been a street musician in New York City, performed in the Broadway production of the Tony Award-winning “M. Butterfly” with Tony Randall and played with rock greats like Blues Traveler, Jimmy Buffet, Alan White, Buddy Miles, Roger Fisher, Mike Derosier and Ann and Nancy Wilson. Evergreen Rotary Park’s Free Concerts in the Park continues Aug. 20 when the Bremerton Farmers Market hosts Classic Ride, a local rock ‘n’ roll band.

A touch of sophistication comes to downtown Sunday, Aug. 23, with the inaugural Kitsap Wine Festival at Harborside Fountain Park from 2 to 6 p.m. Experience wine tasting from 20 Northwest wineries and cuisine provided by Chef Marsha Henry of the Kitsap Conference Center at Bremerton Harborside, Chef Shawn Walker of Anthony’s at Sinclair Inlet and a variety of local artisan food producers. Tickets can be purchased from the Kitsap Conference Center for $45 per person and net proceeds will benefit the Harrison Medical Center Foundation.

The final show of the Free Concerts in the Park series is 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27 at Evergreen Rotary Park. The musical trio Malo Combo will close out the summer in Latin style.
