Workers stand near a buried ruptured sewer line in Old Town Silverdale Friday night. According to Andrew Nelson, the county’s new public works director, a Comcast-affiliated worker severed a pressurized 14-inch iron sewer line at 4 p.m. Nelson expected the line would be repaired tonight. He didn’t think anyone’s sewer service would be affected, as the system had a certain amount of reserve capacity at a nearby pumping station. The ruptured section was shut off from the rest of the sewer system, he said. A vacuum pumper truck was on hand to suck up some of the liquid sewage. Surprisingly, the area did not smell bad at all. Nelson said the sewage was highly diluted.
