TEACHER HONORED
The Silverdale Chamber of Commerce presented its first Excellence in Education award to Danyell Laughlin, an English teacher at Klahowya Secondary School. Her nomination cited extraordinary efforts in challenging and supporting students. Her positive interaction with students inspires them to excel.
The Excellence in Education award is presented three times a year to recognize the efforts of educators in the Central Kitsap School District and show appreciation for the impact they make on the community.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Volunteers are needed to staff the Clear Creek Trail information booth and man the parking lot during Whaling Days in Old Town Silverdale Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26.
Shifts are as long or short as you need. Booth volunteers will hand out maps, answer questions, spread the word about the people- and dog-friendly trail; and sell art-board cutouts for the upcoming salmon art migration that starts Aug. 15.
Booth volunteer shifts: suggested two-hour shifts: noon-8 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Parking lot shifts: 7 a.m.-8.p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Sunday.

NEW SCHEDULE
The Central Kitsap Church of Christ began a new schedule of services July 5 titled, “Love and Respect in Marriage.”
Bible classes are 9-10 a.m., the fellowship period is 10-10:30 a.m. and morning worship begins at 10:30 a.m Sundays. STUDENT SHADOWING
The Doctors Clinic recently completed the first rotation of a Student Shadowing Program which allows students interested in medicine to observe physicians both in the office and hospital. Students from the local community were invited to participate in the two-week program and rotated with physicians in a variety of specialties including radiology, surgery, dermatology and oncology.
The physicians of The Doctors Clinic are providing this community service to help students get an inside view of medicine. They went on rounds with the physicians at Harrison Medical Center and observed radiation therapy with Dr. Audrey Tran of Harrison’s oncology department.
ART UNVEILED
Advanced Medical Imaging offers a program to local artists, which gives them the opportunity to display their artwork on a quarterly basis in the reception areas at the AMI Silverdale location at 1780 NW Myhre Road.
It is the intent to hang uplifting, cheerful art pieces to create a positive environment in the waiting areas. Artwork is for sale directly with the artists. This quarter, floral photography is featured from two artists — Jennifer McKee and Kristine Carroll — with pieces to be displayed into August.
This is McKee’s first professional exhibit. Her photography is all floral, which is shot locally at or near her home in Brownsville. McKee’s floral photography represents several years of image development. The pieces she chose specifically for this show provide a positive and colorful visual environment in the AMI reception and waiting room areas. Her display includes 20 photograph images, framed and printed on canvas, including floral close ups and blooms of northwest garden flowers. McKee is an avid gardener and many of the shots are taken of her favorite flowers.
Carroll finished her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Oregon State University and worked in the botany and plant pathology publication darkroom for several years before moving and supervising the first computer graphics studio for the University of Washington pathology department along side a custom darkroom.
After 30 years in the darkroom with black and white, she says it is a pleasure to be working with digital, where the tonal range is vastly improved, the process environmentally friendly, safer and healthier for the artist.
