Everything Bremerton: When going gets tough, the tough get going

Jobs in the current economic climate are hard to come by and hard to keep. Everyone is feeling the pinch.

Jobs in the current economic climate are hard to come by and hard to keep. Everyone is feeling the pinch.

Companies are looking for ways to save money on their bottom line and improve overall efficiency.

There are times where staff changes need to be made, positions need to be consolidated and duties need to be expanded or reallocated.

When that happens everyone feels like they are taking on a heavier load and more responsibility for the same amount of money and in a few cases even less money.

Do you have a passion for what you do? Do you enjoy the company and the people that you work for? Do you believe in the products or the services they provide? Are you grateful to even have a good job right now when so many others are out of work and struggling?

I do and I will take on that extra load, I will go the extra mile for the greater good and the bigger picture.

Not every employer is out to treat his or her employees badly. It would be so easy to complain and make excuses or a big stink about what is or is not fair when times are tough.

The harder road to travel, and the one I am on right now, is just doing what needs to be done, for whoever needs it.

This means working longer hours and some weekends for the simple known appreciation of my boss and co-workers. It keeps me working through the current hard times for the better ones ahead.

We seldom truly appreciate what we have until it is gone. Let go of worrying about what is fair in your personal employed situation and simply do what is right and needed. Stop the office gossip. Stop complaining about things that don’t matter or people who annoy you at work. Do the best job that you can and start taking some pride in that. Encourage others to do the same.

Find something to do that you enjoy and hold on to that tight with both hands.

Don’t squander the opportunities that come your way.

Because if you do, there is a large skilled pool of qualified people looking for work right now that will gratefully take that job and not make that same mistake you just did.
