The Kitsap Regional Library is starting is annual Summer Reading Program for kids Saturday, June 1.
This program, which has been a yearly event since YEAR is designed to help encourage the children of Kitsap County to read more during the summer.
After every ten hours of reading, a child signed up for the program can receive their choice of reward. The options include a free book of his or her choice and a ticket to the Kitsap County Fair, held August 21 to August 25.
Different branches of the library will be holding a special event tomorrow to celebrate the beginning of the program.
In the Silverdale branch, located on Carlton Street in Old Town Silverdale. The theme is Star Wars, and the event will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a special appearance from R2D2 at the event.
In Port Orchard on Sidney Avenue, the celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. where there will be music courtesy of DJ Dr. Derek and ice cream provided by Carter’s Chocolate.
The Summer Reading program will last from June 1 until August 30.
