Start fixing morale problem in NKSD

The survey results shows a whopping 86 percent of teachers feel a lack of respect by Superintendent Page, and 80 percent give the district an overall poor rating, although support within their own schools and their school’s principal is high.

I am writing to address the recent survey North Kitsap teachers completed regarding satisfaction in the district.

The survey results shows a whopping 86 percent of teachers feel a lack of respect by Superintendent Page, and 80 percent give the district an overall poor rating, although support within their own schools and their school’s principal is high.

Beth Worthington, North Kitsap School Board president, was quoted as saying, “Generally, the board does not share Chris Fraser’s opinion that Superintendent Page has created a negative work environment resulting in low morale among teachers.” If the survey was done by all teachers in the district, this certainly isn’t just “Chris Fraser’s opinion.” In fact, it is the opinion of many parents, students, and citizens of North Kitsap, not just the teachers.

The board needs to get the message loud and clear that morale is extremely low in our district, and it’s our students that end up suffering if teachers leave for different districts. School board members are elected by us, and they need to take off their rose-colored glasses and start fixing the morale problems within the district.
