A 26-year-old Bremerton man assaulted a police officer Dec. 23 after trying to start a fight at McCloud’s bar.

A McCloud’s employee reported the man to police at about 11:45 p.m., saying he was “cut off” from any more alcohol and drunkenly “took a swing at him,” according to Bremerton police reports. The 26-year-old man ran south on Perry Avenue and ignored officer orders to stop.

The man ran toward an officer near the corner of Perry Avenue and Sunset Lane and when the officer grabbed his shirt, the man’s left wrist or arm struck the left side of the 37-year-old officer’s face and continued to run down Perry Avenue. Officers applied a Taser to the man in the 2500 block of Perry Avenue and detained him.

The man was taken to the Kitsap County jail for investigation of two counts of assault, including assaulting a police officer. At the time of his arrest, he was under Department of Corrections supervision with the conditions that he does not enter a bar or consume or possess alcohol.
