In our opinion: What’s the next surprise, your honor?

If Bremerton Mayor Patty Lent knew her finance director of five months, Barbara Stephenson, didn’t plan on sticking around, she should have made that clear.

Likewise, the city’s plans for getting out of the pool business need a full public airing. Details of the Glenn Jarstad Aquatic Center’s transfer to the YMCA are sketchy, but what has been acknowledged by city officials is rates will likely increase for non-members who have relied on public access.

This disclosure, again, should have been made long ago.

Lent and the City Council aren’t in an enviable position, especially when considering the city’s failing finances and the overpriced statues being installed in the desolation of downtown.

But with the departure of Stephenson, and the less-than-forthcoming posture of city officials when discussing the pool, it makes one wonder what the next surprise will be.
