Goodwill shoplifter shouldn’t be sentenced to jail

Array

Regarding the woman caught shoplifting clothing for herself and her baby from the GoodWill store in Port Orchard:

If she was truly poor, I hope the judge uses justice and not punishment in dealing with this petty crime.

I hope the judge says, “There is never a reason to steal. All you had to do was ask the store manager for help and I am sure they would have helped you with clothing. You are to keep the clothing you took and you are required to perform work for the GoodWill Store to make up four times the value of what you took. You are also required to apologize to every single employee that works there.”

This would hopefully teach her not to steal and help her to know people in her community are willing and able to offer help when and if she needs it.

Going to jail serves no purpose to anyone and costs the community money.
