I would like to know what our county commissioners and others on the Kitsap Transit board of directors were thinking when they gave the OK for Kitsap Transit to buy two new passenger-only ferry boats to run from downtown Bremerton to Seattle.
We are in a county budget crisis. Fuel is expensive and probably getting more so.
The car ferry fuel use is being cut back. The county is looking into how we could be more “green” and have a lower carbon impact.
These new boats will use more fuel and have a higher carbon impact per passenger than the car ferries. The car ferries could carry many more passengers than they carry now with no increase of fuel or carbon impact..
All this expense is to cut a few minutes from the crossing.
To put the icing on the cake, there is not enough money to run the boats and they will need to be funded with government grants, which are not permanent funding.
Who will they get money from when the grants run out?
Now let loose of your wallet.
