Bainbridge Performing Arts will be working with students from West Sound Academy to showcase fresh ideas on European and American classical music masterpieces of the 19th and 20th century in the next edition of BPA’s declassified chamber music series — music of the Romantic Era, Jan. 27.
The program will feature two composers whose contexts and agendas fell on different ends of the classical spectrum.
It begins with two Johannes Brahms’ works — Ballades Opus 10 (1956) and his Piano Quintet in F (1866) — which carry forward an outpouring of Romanticism that began in the last decades of the 18th century. Then it will go on to feature an Parisian eccentric and composer who challenged the Romantic ideals — Hector Berlioz.
Students from West Sound Academy, an independent college preparatory school for grades 6-12 in Kitsap, will be sharing their take on the piano pieces to open the program.
Tickets are $10 for music of the Romantic Era, which appears at 3 p.m. Jan. 27 at the BPA Playhouse, 200 Madison Ave. N.
