After mixed results at last weekend’s Olympic League track and field championships, the Knights began competition yesterday at the 3A state-qualifying subdistrict meet at North Mason High School in Belfair.

At leagues last weekend, Jacki Hill sprinted to victories in the 200- and 400-meter events while taking second in the 100, behind Deven Wilson of Peninsula.

Angela Anderson and Stephanie Himmelsbach took second and third respectively in the 100 high hurdles. Anderson posted a time of 17.01 seconds, just ahead of Himmelsbach’s 17.25.

The girls 100 and 400 relays both earned second-place finishes.

On the boys side Alex Griffin, hampered by a nagging leg injury, managed second in the 100. He sat out the 200, an event he normally dominates.

Jamaree Wells ran the 200 in 24.18 seconds, good for third, while Chris Flemming took fifth in the 100 at 11.88.

The boys 100 relay team, holding the state’s best time earlier in the season, did not run due to disciplinary reasons. It was expected to be back in action yesterday at subdistricts.

The boys finished with 55.5 points overall, good for seventh place, while the girls finished in fifth on 75 points.

Subdistricts continue today at NM, beginning at 3 p.m.

Baseball

The Knights ended their season on the diamond by falling 5-4 against Olympic.

The latest — and last — of one-run losses on the season, the Oly loss added to a long list of “what-ifs” for a young Knight team that lost a slew of close games.

Down 5-1 after three innings, Bremerton capitalized on seven Oly errors to battle back, making it 5-4 going into the seventh, but could not get over the hump.

Eli Olson picked up three hits and Noel Frederick added two hits and an RBI for Bremerton.

Riley Crow improved to 7-0 on the year for Oly, picking up the win as the starter. He also went 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBI.
