Driving past the Saar’s Market Place on Olney Avenue, signs of the store’s closing are plastered on the store windows announcing “10 percent off closeout items.”

No date for the final day has been announced.

Once inside the 42,000-square-foot store, customers noticed that the produce and most of the meat products are gone, along with several other food items.

The store opened after the Thriftway store closed in 2000. It was the third grocery store to operate at the Olney Avenue location.

The Port Orchard Market Place, which is owned by Marketplace Food and Drug, was the company’s first venture in Kitsap County. The company is based in Tacoma.

South Kitsap residents are left with six supermarkets to buy groceries: two Albertson’s, QFC, Safeway, Fred Meyer and Walmart.

With the Port Orchard location closing, only five Saar’s Market Place stores are left in the state: Lakewood, Tacoma, Seattle, Oak Harbor and Renton.
