No place to go a week from Saturday and nothing to wear? You’re in luck, according to Ken Bicha of the Port Orchard Eagles.
The Eagles will be sponsoring its 4th annual Hobo Stew Cook-off event at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 16. Judging will precede the dinner at 6 p.m.
Those wishing to attend are invited to dress up hobo-style and to bring a crock pot with a favorite recipe. Trophies will be awarded for first through third place, as well as prizes for best costumes.
The cost for the dinner, salad, roll and dessert, is $7. Profits from the dinner and raffles will benefit the Captain Joseph House Foundation, a nonprofit respite/retreat house created to serve “Gold Star” families of fallen heroes who have died in combat since 9/11.
A silent and live auction will round out the night with proceeds to support South Kitsap Helpline’s Food Bank and the Fathoms O’ Fun Festival’s Fourth of July fireworks display.
The list of auction items include lunch with a local, state and national elected officials; carpet cleaning; family portraits; a one-night local motel stay; an attorney consultation; automobile services, gutter cleaning; 10 one-color print t-shirts; duct cleaning; a round of golf for two at Village Greens or McCormick Woods and a round for four at Gold Mountain; and a full day of catch and release fly fishing for two at Trophy Lake.
