I received a flier in the mail touting State Rep. Jan Angel for State Senate. I noted the section mentioning some of the awards she has received. I also went online to her impressive website and saw her much more extensive resume. It has been my understanding that Angel is the state leader for the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) which was confirmed by a phone call to her campaign chairman.

While this fact may seem appropriate to mention on the flier and certainly on her website, I found no mention of it on either. Why would Angel prefer that voters in the 26th District not know about her association with ALEC? Why would she not be proud of her state position in ALEC and highlight it among her major achievements?

If you are not familiar with ALEC, I urge you to Google, Yahoo, or Bing ALEC and inform yourself about its national agenda and how it works through state legislatures to accomplish its goals. If you have noticed the similar legislation coming out of Republican controlled legislatures throughout the country, then you have noticed ALEC in action. ALEC is not a secret conspiracy, just a well-oiled political organization with a very corporate-friendly, conservative agenda.

The question we need to ask ourselves before we consider electing Angel to the Washington State Senate is: Would the ALEC agenda be good for our state?

As state ALEC leader Angel must think it is.

But the fact that she keeps her ALEC association hidden suggests that she believes the voters of the 26th District may not agree.
