Juggling the books
isn’t the answer
What? Kitsap County is borrowing $4 million from the road fund to continue operation for the first two months of 2010?
And this is the fourth time since October 2008 that the county has done this?
I really don’t care that “the county pays this back into the road fund from expected revenues it gets from property taxes.”
The whole point is that it never is a good thing when we borrow from Peter to pay Paul.
Have the county commissioners not learned anything from school? When we start shifting money around to cover our rear ends. We’re just digging ourselves a bigger hole. We’re gambling that things will get better — and if they don’t, we’re truly screwed in a much bigger way.
So, Kitsap County, stop this practice and lay off more, more, more of the bloated county workforce.
Just put up a sign for the public that says, “Please be patient when waiting in line as we have cut our staff to save your money.”
We’ll understand and applaud you for demonstrating the fiscal responsibility that we hired you for in the first place.
And if you’ve collected too much money from the sales tax revenue that went into the road fund, then save that money because you/we may need it if this winter is nasty.
